My Quilting Cherry..

by Kate on July 29, 2009

has been POPPED!

Mum was here all last week and because she is such a fantastic help with the kids I managed to finish the 9 Square One-a-Day quilt. This is the first quilt where I have seen through the whole process…from start to finish…what a fantastic feeling!

A few key things I have learnt whilst quilting this baby is how important it is to get the 1/4 inch seam, especially when you are straight line quilting. Everything needs to be symmetrical because boy… those straight lines show up ALL the wonky bits! I have since realised that my Bernina came with a No’ 57 foot…I cannot believe I didn’t find this sooner!

I need A LOT more practice on the actual quilting side of things but overall I am really pleased with the outcome.

Red solid binding from Prints Charming and the quilt is backed in a grey cotton with teenie white African animals (forgot to photogragh).

The quilt measures 36″x43″ – small but perfect for this:

And before I forget, the WINNER of the PINK GIVEAWAY is: Sophie – Chez Sophie ‘Hey, just found you from blueberry park. Fab fabrics, can i join in with your giveaway. Luv Sophie xx’ Congratulations!!

Kate, the quilt is wonderful! How satisfying is it when you have completed q quilt yourself! I am so glad that you have given the quilting process a go, it looks like you have done a really terrific job. It does get easier each time! You definitely need to invest in a quarter inch foot, it sure makes life easier.

Your daughter looks like she is very pleased with HER new quilt!
