The pins have been removed, the quilting finished and the binding is on.
I based this quilt on Rita’s checkerboard that can be found in the ‘bricks and stones’ pattern. A fantastic pattern and I am looking forward to making the entire quilt next time round.
As this is for a a new babe (who hasn’t arrived yet), I wanted to keep the size small and palette neutral. A mixture of oranges, greens and natural tones make up the checkerboard which is then framed in cream linen.
I have used linen in my quilts before but never to frame or border a quilt, it’s not something I am in a hurry to repeat. The linen was so slippery and stretchy, quite a few choice curse words were uttered whilst quilting, not to mention when it came to sewing on the binding!
More importantly though, this quilt was made with much love and I know my friend and her new baby will treasure it.
I thought I would leave you with a sneak peek of what I have been working on today, showcasing some of Australia’s very talented fabric designers. As soon as the back is pieced, it will be off to Karen to work her quilting magic.

It looks great and so does the last one.
Beautiful baby quilt Kate, I love your quilting on it too. Will be back to check out more of your sneak peek! xo
The baby quilt is just beautiful, Kate…thanks for giving me something gorgeous to look at today ;-) As for your new quilt…well you know how I feel about the wealth of stunning Aussie hand printed fabrics that you are so lucky to have…awesome quilt. You are not going to be able to part with this one! x

When is a labour of love a labour of love without a few choice curse words along the way?
Wowee! A supercute baby quilt, in a really soft and neutral color palette that I absolutely adore.
Fav quilting! I can very well image that the linen would have provided you with some stressful moments! Beautifully made.
Rita
Love your mix of prints& colours. Perfect.
gorgeous! That will definitely be treasured! Linen makes me swear too. It's got a mind of it's own, despite drowning it in spray starch. I was told to try carolina chambray instead, and I really like it. It's hard to find, but worth searching for!
Can't wait to see what else you've been working on!
I love the cot quilt. The colours and quilting look amazing. Am also very keen to see the second one finished – lovely!
Oh, I just love the colors in the baby quilt. Really nice!
f a n t a s t i c Kate!! I give anyone crazy props for dealing with linen and coming out the victor!!! LOL You slayed it!! :)

I just adore the baby quilt….although the color palette is neutral, they all still stand out beautifully. As for your sneak peek….WOW!! I can not wait to see this one quilted!! It promises to be stunning.

Wow it looks gorgeous!
I am working with linen at the moment, it's a bit tricky.
Beautiful! I am thinking about a quilt for our living room since a long time because I would like something neutral…so this is truly an inspiration!
You are on fire lady! Both creations look stunning as per usual of course!
Love the fabrics in your sneak peek, can't wait to see it finished. Great baby quilt too, perfect for girl or boy.
Lovely! I know what you mean about linen in quilts, but when it turns out right (easily) it is well worth it. I love the weight it lends a quilt. This is a gorgeous little quilt, thanks for sharing.
Very nice! I must try my hand at quilt making.
Beautiful Kate! I'm sure your friend will love the baby quilt.
Shame linen isn't your favourite texture to sew with, it's beautiful & you've done a great job!! Love Posie
the baby quilt is so sweet.

Oooh, that new one is spectacular! I've been thinking about making something in similar colours, but with some contrast reds thrown in. Looking forward to seeing this in it's entirety!
