Christmas is fast approaching. I didn’t make any Christmas gifts last year but I am determined that this year will be different.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not going overboard…the kids will get one hand made gift each and the rest will be delivered by ‘Santa’ but where possible and appropriate, I hope to make and gift out a few handmade items.
I have drawn up a little list, started gathering supplies and am cracking on because I know that if I leave it any longer, time will get away from me.
These Liberty hand towels took no more than an hour to whip up and I am planning on giving them to Maddie’s childcare teacher/s with some soap.
I reckon they look pretty good (especially when you think of time invested) and if you are up for some quick Christmas gift making…here’s how you can do it.
To make 4 hand towels you will need:
4 pieces of waffle measuring 28″ x 17″
8 strips of Liberty (or another fabric of your choice) measuring 2″ x 17″
I basically used the same principle as the linen scarf and it’s important to note that all the edges are raw. I like that look but if you are after a neater finish you can always hem the edges.
Step 1: Top-stitch a quarter of an inch in from the edge of the waffle, around the entire perimeter. Repeat on each hand towel.
Step 2: Take 2 of your Liberty strips, position 2″ from the top edge of the waffle and 2″ from the bottom edge of the waffle. Pin and top stitch to attach. Repeat on each hand towel.
Step 3: Wash, trim and gift.
Told you – dead easy.

oh i love these…they are such a perfect gift.
I have a pile of white hand towels sitting here for that purpose. But you've given me the idea of gifting them to the teachers – what a fabulous idea! I also like them with some ricrac under the edges of the pretty fabric so only half shows. That and some soap will be perfect this year. Thanks so much!
