I’m so fond of this quilt, mostly because of the sentiment behind it but I do love that I really threw caution to to the wind and just went for it.
I almost had a little too much fun with the making and wholeheartedly embraced the ‘cut it up and piece’ approach. The top is made with linen and solids from the stash.
The finished quilt measures a wonky 58″-60″ square. It’s the biggest quilt I have ever quilted on my machine and I struggled a bit with the size, the neck on my machine is pretty teenie.
Made for a very encouraging, generous and special friend – thank you.

Lovely, as always Kate! I am still astounded that you've only been sewing for a couple of years – I think you must have done so much that in hours it is the equivalent of 20 years of the average person! The quilt in motion is great too.
Beautiful! She's going to love it.
Beautiful! She's going to love it.
Just absolutely beautiful! I LOVE it!!!
This is really gorgeous!! And so modern – love it!
Love it. It's gorgeous as per usual. I don't think you'd notice any pleating on this if there were any at all!
I marvel at your ability (and guts!) to just go for it! Lovely quilt!
You and those moving quilts!!
(But they do look great).
And a gorgeous quilt … such an amazing gift!!
Positively insanely gorgeous..I am in love and a bit jealous that I don't have a beauty like this in my room to snuggle up to :P

Wow!! Gorgeous Kate – such beautiful colours – a lovely gift!
Lovely quilt. Love the linen and the organic quilting. I have to try that, well mine looks that way without trying, so maybe if I go for it, it will look better. haha
I so knew who that was without clicking to find out. Something to do with the colours, methinks! She's a very lucky chook. And don’t you love it that you can be absolutely, 100 per cent sure, that she will damned well LOVE IT!?!
Beautiful – I love improv piecing and those warm golden browns
The rich golden colors are wonderful. Nice job!
it's gorgeous Kate! I love the piecing and placement….it is all balanced beautifully. I suggest to throw caution to wind more often and let your creative side take over. I am sure your friend will feel so incredibly special when she receives this amazing gift.
Oh wow! What a beautiful quilt! It all works so well. The colours, the design and the quilting. Like all your quilts, this is something really special. Such a lucky friend too!
