Haiku

by Kate on April 29, 2013

It has been lovely reacquainting myself with the hook and Haiku was the perfect project to ease back in to crochet. Mindless repetition which became mediative. I ordered the pattern from Quince & Co, along with two balls of tern. Calico & Ivy stock a gorgeous brushed suri alpaca from frog tree yarns, it is [...]

Happy Go Lucky Quilt

by Kate on October 14, 2012

Sarah and I worked on this quilt together and it was lots of fun. There are 21 different fabrics featured and fabric selection was made much easier with two of us finding prints that we thought would work. We shared the piecing and binding load between us but Sarah did all the quilting ties, she [...]

Around the Rosy Baby Blanket

by Kate on July 25, 2012

I hooked up this blanket for my new baby niece, Piper Kate. I firmly believe every child should have a blanket that they get so attached do it ends up disintegrating without leaving any trace behind. That is what happened to my blankie, or so Mum tells me. This blanket is made with 4 balls [...]

Blogs and Crochet

by Kate on July 5, 2012

Hi there, It has been a little while since I have been here and it is probably a sign of things to come. The family/study/work juggle means time for crafting is virtually non-existent but I really miss time spent making and need to somehow tweak the schedule. Anyway, I have been thinking a lot lately [...]

Potholder Installation

by Kate on April 28, 2012

I promised that once the potholders were done and up on the wall at Calico & Ivy that I would post a pic but to get the full effect, you need to see it in the flesh. If you are in Sydney, pop in and take a look – Sarah and I are both thrilled [...]

Wool Eater Potholder

by Kate on April 2, 2012

Another one for the wall at Calico & Ivy. I have had my eye on Sarah London’s wool-eater pattern for a while now but didn’t want to commit to making an entire blanket, it does after all use a lot of wool. This is a very easy hook and looks a lot harder than it [...]

Crochet Motifs

by Kate on March 21, 2012

I have been a little time poor of late and as a result, craft time has been virtually non-existent. However, try working in a store that stocks such beautiful materials, I just want to sit on the couch and crochet. Not at all conducive to writing a paper that is due next week. Anyway, these [...]

Net Scowl – Tutorial

by Kate on February 29, 2012

I had quite a few requests for a tutorial on the Net Scarf, now the “Net Scowl” – thanks Rit! You can download the tutorial here OR head over to Ravelry. Have you noticed that there have been so many glorious & colourful yarny projects popping up of late? It has inspired me to start [...]

Net Scarf

by Kate on February 22, 2012

A cross between a scarf and a cowl. This is basically a rectangle net (made up of chains and trebles), with two corners joined together – it couldn’t get any easier. So light, has lots of drape and can be worn long or closer to the neck. Ravelled.

zero, zip, nada, nought

by Kate on February 17, 2012

Not a whiff of crafting going on here. For the last few weeks I have been couch bound watching all four seasons of Mad Men and have loved every single minute of it. It is the sort of drama that requires ones full attention. A real visual feast and I can’t recommend it enough but [...]
